Comprehensive Smart Home Diagnostic Guide
The "2.4GHz vs 5GHz" WiFi Problem
Most smart plugs, bulbs, and older cameras only communicate on the 2.4GHz WiFi band because it has better range and penetrates walls better than 5GHz. If your phone is on 5GHz and you try to set up a 2.4GHz device, setup often fails.Fix: Check if your router has a dedicated "IoT Network" setting, or temporarily disable 5GHz during setup.
Zigbee & Channel Interference
Zigbee hubs (like Philips Hue or Aqara) often operate on wireless channels that overlap with your home Wi-Fi. If your devices are slow to respond, your Wi-Fi router might be drowning out the Zigbee signal.Fix: Change your Zigbee channel to 25 or change your Wi-Fi router to Channel 1 or 6.
When to Factory Reset?
Don't factory reset immediately! This often breaks automations.Order of operations:1. Toggle Power (Unplug/Replug). 2. Reboot Router/Hub. 3. Check App for Firmware Updates. 4. Factory Reset only as a last resort.
"No Response" Status
If Apple HomeKit says "No Response," it's often a network mDNS (Multicast DNS) issue. Your router might be blocking discovery packets. Rebooting your Home Hub (Apple TV or HomePod) usually forces a fresh network discovery map and resolves this ghost issue.
